Does it bother anyone but me about how law enforcement is acting lately? I must stop and asked myself is it them, or is it the way society has been acting lately. Turn on any news station and you will hear of how the police have brutally assaulted or killed some innocent person. It is disturbing period. It appears the agenda of the media is to create more turmoil among the masses. While people are busy watching the latest breaking story the rest of the underlying world is busy with another agenda.

The latest story in St. Petersburg, Florida was the most disturbing to me. The police went to the area that has been named “tent city” and literally destroyed the tents with box cutters. The homeless stood there helpless and watched the only shelter they had being ripped to shreds. Apparently local business had been complaining and did not care to view the homeless and their facilities. It must have been bad for their business, and such an eyesore, to actually see how the less fortunate are currently living.

Business owners had the opportunity to take this situation and help create a solution. How disappointing that they chose to become part of the problem. A set of higher standards are put upon you when you choose to be a business within a community. That is the prime time to set the example with the neighborhood and make a difference. I personally would not care to do business with any client that lacked emotion, empathy and respect for life in general. Turning a blind eye towards those less fortunate does not make it go away. Seeing the homeless person on the corner, and rolling up the window prior to making eye contact, doesn’t make them or their situation invisible.

Life is about making choices, and choices can only be made when options are available. Everyone was not dealt the same hand or given the same opportunities. Decisions in life, I have found, do revolve around money and how much you have. Decisions are also based on how much support and guidance are available to help you succeed. Most would not have intentionally chosen to live in a tent with limited resources , but we don’t know underlying reason put them there. It should not be our place to judge, but merely to help in someway.

Blessings are not guaranteed daily and no one knows when a simple tent may mean the only home available. Human kindness is something that we are missing here. Do we have any left?
